At Lincolnshire, our Speech Therapists work with residents, who are experiencing communication or swallowing impairment, to restore the highest level of function. They work with those who have speech, language and communication difficulties as well as those with swallowing issues.
Components of our Speech Therapy Program include:
- Individualized assessment and evaluation of cognitive status, communication and swallowing ability
- Customized plan of care designed to achieve goals
- Evaluation of progress toward goals
Some of the conditions our Speech Therapy staff treat:
- Receptive aphasia – difficulty understanding what others have said
- Expressive aphasia – difficulty communicating verbally
- Other speech and voice impairments involving volume, pitch and quality
- Dysphagia – impaired ability to safely swallow food and fluids
- Bell’s Palsy
- Vocal cord damage/injury
Treatment and modalities include:
- Aphasia treatment exercises
- Oral and vocal exercises to improve speech articulation
- Cognitive therapy to improve orientation, attention span and memory
- Adaptive communication techniques such as gestures and picture boards
- Swallowing therapy with dietary modifications
- Compensatory swallowing technique training
