Veterans’ benefits you should know about:
Besides the benefits to veterans that most of us know about, there are many other benefits that you may not have heard about. Many veterans out there are paying more for care and services than they need to be. At Lincolnshire Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, we want veterans to know what they are entitled to, and to get all the help they deserve.
The Aid and Attendance benefit is a valuable one most veterans and their families don’t know about. If you meet the requirements, this benefit can help pay for assisted living, nursing homes, and other long-term care. Not only will the Aid and Attendance benefit pay for a large part of the veteran’s long-term care costs, but it is also available to cover spouses. The main requirements for Aid and Attendance are service during wartime, the veteran meets income limits, and he or she requires care.
Tax preparation services are offered to veterans at the tax assistance offices on military bases. They have expertise working with military-related tax issues, and can save military and veteran families time and money.
Life insurance is offered through the Servicemembers and Veterans Group Life Insurance programs. Veterans can get up to $400,000 of coverage with reasonable premium rates.
The VA offers mortgage and loan assistance to veterans who are having difficulty making their mortgage payments. You may be able to get help through special repayment plans and loan modification programs.
The Department of Veteran Affairs also offers a very important program which extends support to families who are caring for elderly family members at home. They offer a free support line, a caregiver support coordinator, and online workshops. You can contact the National Council on Aging to learn more.
We want you to be informed and make the most of your veterans’ benefits.
